Body
The “Zero-waste Campus Recycling Challenge” encourages schools to organise inter-class recycling competition by their own to allow students to practise source separation and actively recycle unavoidable waste in action.
Activity Support
Schools can make use of the following resources to plan their inter-class recycling competition:
- Record Form of Recyclable Quantities
- Latest information of waste separation and recycling, including recycling locations, recyclables types and clean recycling e-flyers
- 30 handy recycling bags for the competition (Schools should request to their dedicated Green Outreach (GO) Team member)
- Decent gifts as competition rewards (Schools should request to their dedicated GO Team member after completion of competition)
Suggested Activities
- Teaching Environmental Knowledge
Teachers can use the teaching kits and publicity materials provided by the EPD to teach students how to reduce waste at source and correct recycling methods, and assist them in conducting source separation of waste and clean recycling.
- Setting up Recycling Facilities
Place handy recycling bags or other recycling facilities in a prominent and easily accessible location within the classroom to facilitate recycling activities with a view to increasing the recyclable quantity.
- School Promotional Activities
Post promotional materials of the competition on bulletin boards of the classrooms or school website to inform students, teachers and parents, and to further encourage students to actively participate in waste reduction and recycling.
- Appoint Environmental Ambassadors
Nominate students in each class to serve as Environmental Ambassadors to cultivate students a sense of responsibility and leadership in environmental protection. They can encourage classmates to actively participate in recycling and assist in regular recording of the class’s recycling data.
- Filling in Recycling Records
The Environmental Ambassadors of each class can use the “Record Form of Recyclable Quantities” provided by the EPD to record detailed data such as the date of recycling, types of recyclables and their weight.
- Analysing Recycling Data
Regularly compile and analyse recyclables quantity, and announce the recycling data/performance to each class with a view to allowing them to understand the recycling situation within their classes.
Request for Souvenirs
After the completion of the activity, schools should submit an online form to request for souvenirs. After vetting the “Record Form of Recyclable Quantities” submitted by schools, the EPD will distribute exquisite souvenirs as rewards for best-performing classes in recycling (Note: each participating school can only receive souvenirs once. Applications are based on each school and duplicate applications will not be processed. The number of souvenirs is limited, while stock last)
