Introduction

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD), through the Education Bureau, has invited all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong to participate in the We-recycle@School Activity (“the Activity”) on 1 March 2024. This Activity aims to enhance students’ understanding on waste reduction and recycling, as well as community recycling facilities. Stage 1- Cultivate Waste Reduction and Recycling Habits with the Teaching and Promotional Resources Provided under “Becoming Campus Recycling Expert”
Activity Description
(1) Teaching Resources Provide teaching resource pack and teacher workshops to assist teachers in guiding students on understanding waste reduction and recycling, as well as community recycling facilities. Besides, the EPD also provides various teaching resources, e.g. online games and electronic waste reduction and recycling promotional materials to offer effective teaching resources and supports to schools.

Through interactive or hands-on experiences, students will learn about environmental knowledge, e.g. waste reduction at source, resource circulation, green building, and corporate carbon reduction practices etc.
(4) School Recycling Support Schools can apply for the 3-colour waste separation bins through the “Waste Separation and Recycling Scheme in Schools” to facilitate the collection of recyclables in schools.

Stage 2 - Encourage Students and their Families to Practise Waste Reduction and Recycling through Competition and Reward Activities
Activity Description
SGREEN x We-recycle@School Inter-school Recycling Competition We-recycle@School Activity collaborates with “Ocean Park Conservation Alliance” to carry out an inter-school recycling competition. Apart from encouraging students to practise clean recycling actively in schools, we would also like them to bring relevant message to their family members and the communities, and invite their family members to visit GREEN@COMMUNITY recycling facilities to practise clean recycling.
Reward Activities Through the "Community Recycling Facilities Experience and Reward Activity for Schools", schools are encouraged to deliver the collected recyclables to the GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities or local recyclers for recycling. At the same time, the EPD launches the "GREEN@COMMUNITY School Recycling Education Activity” to encourage schools to organise student visits to GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities to participate in recycling, with a view to educating students about community recycling facilities and clean recycling practices.
